Commercial Real Estate Professional Organization - Operational Excellence
The Challenge
The Board of Directors for the Dallas chapter of a national non-profit commercial real estate professional organization serving 7,000 members wanted to determine if the organization’s administration (accounting, event planning, monthly meeting coordination, etc.) should be maintained in-house or outsourced. The Board was concerned that the current administration was inefficient due to the use of multiple providers for individual services.
The association’s Board of Directors asked Teel StratVisor Group (StratVisor) to objectively evaluate the company’s administrative functions and provide them with the most efficient option.
What We Did
StratVisor’s first step was to objectively analyze all the decision factors that impacted whether this administration role should be in-house or outsourced. The team developed an administration scorecard to analyze options that included executive-level continuity for the organization, consistency across an annually changing board of directors, and cost (salary, start-up costs, office cost, etc.) of the various options.
Once the decision factors and administration options were finalized, the StratVisor team facilitated a scorecard weighting session with the Board of Directors. Based on the results of that session, StratVisor recommended that the Board hire an in-house Executive Director who would be dedicated to serving their administrative needs.
The Result
As a result of working with the StratVisor team, the Client received the following:
- Third party assessment of the organization’s administration role
- Research of potential outsourcing options
- Research of cost information for each administration option (salaries, office cost, one-time start-up costs, etc.)
- Objective scorecard with relevant decision factors
- Facilitation of a scorecard weighting session with Board Members
- Presentation of the Business Case to the Board
